Paul DerOhannesian I began practicing law in 1953 in Albany, NY. A former First Lieutenant in the United States Army during World War II, Mr. DerOhannesian returned to his hometown of Albany after the war to study law and build a budding law practice. Mr. DerOhannesian developed a successful and well respected general practice law firm, finding a distinct niche in estate law. Mr. DerOhannesian also served as an attorney for the Legislative Index at the New York State Capitol, and on the Character and Fitness Committee of the Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court.
Mr. DerOhannesian's son, Paul DerOhannesian II, joined the law firm in 1979 and its name was changed to DerOhannesian and DerOhannesian. Paul, a graduate of Georgetown University and Albany Law School, expanded the expertise of the firm to include litigation in both civil and criminal contexts. Paul has developed an extensive Federal court practice, election law practice and appellate practice that has taken DerOhannesian and DerOhannesian to the New York State Court of Appeals and Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Paul's experience in sexual assault and child abuse cases as an Albany County Assistant District Attorney and authorship of Sexual Assault Trials (currently in its 3rd edition) has garnered national attention for DerOhannesian and DerOhannesian.
